Located in Bugis, in the central area of Singapore, the limited available ground space posed spatial challenges and sparked the concept of this project. The main idea was to have landscapes and ‘ground spaces’ accessible to people that are occupying spaces above ground. Each floor level bares similar characterisitics to ground land spaces, while rooms and residential units resemble individual houses, defying the structural norms of a multistorey development.
The various levels of landscapes and vegetation reduce isolation for the elderly, while creating a holistic environment for those who are coping with dementia. Each residential level has a mix of different occupants – students, young family and the elderly, to create a well-balance clusters of communities. Communal gardens provide therapeutic activity / environment for the dementia patients and elderly occupants.
The large central void, supplemented by chamfered floor slab edges, across all levels create visual interaction between occupants residing on different levels. Merging residential levels into two-storey housing units improves the light transmission across all floors.
